The American Charles Manson, known for being one of the most famous serial killers of the 20th century and the mastermind behind the death of actress Sharon Tate, has died at the age of 83 of natural causes in a hospital in Bakersfield in California, United States. (USA).

In August 1969, Manson and the followers of his sect, known as “The Manson Family,” murdered several people in a violent race war that shocked US society and marked the counterculture of the 1960s and the hippie movement. .

He was convicted and found guilty in 1971 of conspiracy for the massacre that ended two years earlier with the life of actress Sharon Tate, eight months pregnant and wife of director Roman Polanski, with whom she lived in a residence in Beverly Hills, California. Likewise for other tragic crimes committed in the city of Los Angeles, California, between July and August of 1969.

The cult leader sent his followers, armed with bayonets, guns and knives, to the mansion of 26-year-old Sharon Tate, the killers stabbed the pregnant woman approximately 16 times. They also brutally killed five visitors who were in Tate’s house. The next night, supermarket executive Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, were also murdered in his home.

They were collective crimes, satanic orgies, apocalyptic aberrations that dealt a fierce stab to the hippy community. After years of love and peace, Manson and his followers took a changing and naive society by the hand and led it on a journey through darkness. Once the journey was completed, in the same summer in which man had reached the Moon, an era came to an end.

At that time, Manson himself claimed that he had never murdered anyone, nor had he induced anyone to commit a murder. Although he was indeed not present when the bloody events occurred. However, during the trial, prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi portrayed Manson as a “satanic monster and mastermind of the massacre, perpetrated by his followers as “mindless robots.”

Manson was sentenced to death, but the punishment was never carried out. After capital punishment was abolished in California, he was sentenced to life in prison with the right to request parole  in  2027, although he died this Sunday, November 19, of natural causes, at the age of 83, 48 years after the macabre series. of murders to which he was convicted, most of the members of the “Manson family”, who carried out the crimes, are still in prison.
