The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) stated today that it is ordering the U.S. businesses of China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile to cease fixed line or mobile broadband network services in the United States.

Reuters reported that the FCC said it was requiring Chinese telecom companies to stop services within 60 days of the net neutrality order approved today taking effect. The order also applies to China’s state-owned Pacific Networks and its wholly-owned subsidiary ComNet.

The FCC previously banned these Chinese companies from providing telecommunications services, and U.S. courts upheld those rulings.

FCC Chairman Jessica Rosenworcel said today that they have evidence that Chinese telecommunications companies provide broadband services in the United States.

The FCC has revoked or denied the right of Chinese companies to provide U.S. telecommunications services on the grounds of national security concerns. The FCC previously said that Chinese telecommunications companies are “exploited, influenced and controlled by the Chinese government.”

The Chinese telecom companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks said that China Telecom’s official website shows that the company operates 26 so-called “network connection points” (POPs) in the United States and provides hosting, broadband, IP transmission and data Center services, etc.

The FCC is concerned that China’s access to network connection points, often located in data centers, could affect national security.

“They interconnect with other networks and have access to critical network connections and data centers,” Starks said, urging authorities to “pay closer attention to the threats posed by hostile vendors to our data and data centers.” ”.

The FCC previously banned approval of new telecommunications equipment from China ‘s Huawei , ZTE and other companies, saying they posed “unacceptable risks” to U.S. national security.
