Three Germans have been arrested on suspicion of espionage for China. They are intended to have passed on knowledge about technological innovations.

Three Germans have apparently passed on information about innovative technologies in military shipping to the Chinese secret service. A man and a couple were arrested on suspicion of espionage for the Chinese secret service. According to the public prosecutor, they are said to have been working for the Chinese secret service since June 2022 at the latest and have also violated the Foreign Trade Act in this context.
At the time of the arrest, the accused had been in negotiations on research projects that could be useful to expand China’s maritime fighting power, in particular, the prosecutor’s communication was said.
Direct contact with Chinese secret service
One of the men is said to have provided information on military-use technologies for an employee of the Chinese secret service MSS. To this end, he had “b served” of the arrested couple, who ran a company in Düsseldorf. The company has served as a “medium for contacting and cooperating with persons from German science and research”.
They conducted a study for a Chinese contractor. It went to the state of the art of machine parts, which are also used for the operation of high-performance marine engines, such as those used in fighting ships. Behind the Chinese contractual partner, the same intelligence officer, who one of the suspects had received his orders, reported the prosecution.
On Monday and Tuesday, the accused will be brought before the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice, who will decide on their pre-trial detention.
