Hernández, 55, served two terms as Honduras’ president and was arrested three months after leaving
office in 2022 and later handed over to the U.S. justice system,
which sought his extradition.

Hernández in March this year. was found by a court in New York guilty of participating in drug smuggling into the USA, which he supported thanks to his control over the army and police. According to the US prosecutor’s office, he “created a drug state”, was involved in cooperation
with cartels and smuggling drugs and weapons since 2004, and received millions of dollars in bribes for this.
