Countries in the Western military alliance Nato are considering taking a number of nuclear weapons out of storage and putting them on standby.

This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg says in an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph published on Monday.

It is happening in response to an increased threat from China and Russia, it says.

– I do not want to go into operational details about how many nuclear warheads should be operational and which should be in storage, but we must talk about these topics. This is exactly what we do, says Stoltenberg.

He made a similar announcement last week.

Here, the Norwegian Nato chief said in an unusually direct manner that Nato is ready when it comes to nuclear weapons.
