Sioux: Over the weekend, the train bridge across the Big Sioux River in North Sioux City collapsed as floods wreaked havoc in the region.

The railroad bridge that connects Riverside and North Sioux City collapsed around 11 pm, prompting authorities to block several roadways and bridges in the nearby area. Currently, the authorities are evaluating the damage and possible effects on rail services after the incident that caused travel disruption

“It kind of caved in the center, and is currently in the river,” authorities said.

Following this incident, the traffic came to a complete stop immediately in the city.

In August last year, a train and a bridge collapsed in the state, which caused massive traffic disruption. The incident occurred at Military Road and Main Street.

The train owned by D & I Railroad operates from Dell Rapids, S.D., to Sioux City, Iowa. D & I transport ethanol, dried distiller grains, cement, corn oil, plastic pellets, and more such items.

While two train carriages were left hanging, the bridge appeared partially collapsed which caused a train to derail, leaving two train cars dangling. Those cars were just carrying grains, however, officials said that the train was hauling ethanol.
