Kamala Harris will arrive in Mexico on June 7, reports Ebrard

Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard revealed that CIA authorities detailed some security issues for the visit of the US Vice President

The foreign minister Marcelo Ebrard announced Friday that the vice president of the United States , Kamala Harris , will arrive in Mexico on Monday , June 7, after the midterm elections take place, however, meeting with Mexican authorities will take place the next day.

In a morning conference, Ebrard commented that the deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency ( CIA ) came to Mexico to detail some security issues for the visit of the US official.

He stressed that he did not meet with the CIA representative , who had meetings with the Secretaries of Defense and Navy .


On May 7, a transmission was made to which the media was entered in Harris’s office  , a relaxed atmosphere between the two characters could be seen, in about seven minutes AMLO called for  understanding  and  Kamala  asked to work together.

Kamala Harris  pointed out that Mexico and the US have a long and complex history, but we have to do the work that is required and consolidate the advances made in the past.

“Our nations are facing the covid, its repercussions, the growing migrant flow, as well as corruption and impunity,” said the vice president .

He pointed out that when people leave their homes they run away from something or simply do not have opportunities in their countries, which is why he called for background work to be carried out bilaterally, seeking an international approach to the problems in the Northern Triangle.

He added that both countries also share that together we can develop a sense of hope in the Northern Triangle, I look forward to seeing you in person in June and I appreciate this meeting.


President López Obrador pointed out that the migratory issue is of all Mexico’s interest “because of political, historical, friendship, sometimes differences, but we have a border that unites us of more than 3,000 kilometers, we have to look for the understanding, don’t fight. “

He added, in an anecdote, that when there were bad relations with the United States , Porfirio Díaz was attributed a phrase: “poor Mexico , so far from God and so close to the United States, ” which caused Kamala to laugh  .

“Now we could say with a much better relationship: ‘Blessed Mexico so close to God and not so far from the US, ‘” said AMLO and caused the vice president a second smile .

We are going to continue to understand each other, we have a lot in common, we agree on the immigration policy of the president of the United States , Joe Biden, launched and said that they can count on Mexico , although he warned that he has a specific proposal, in reference to his social programs promoted with American money in Central America.


After 10:25 a.m. on Friday, May 7, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that the videoconference of resident López Obrador with Vice President Kamala Harris had ended . There was present the ambassador of Mexico in the United States , Esteban Moctezuma Barragan.

He assured that it was a very cordial political dialogue based on substantive coincidences.

“A close relationship is being built based on trust and respect,” said Ebrard .

After the meeting, Ebrard was interviewed outside the National Palace and gave more details about the meeting between López Obrador and Harris.

The foreign minister explained that, on the subject of vaccines, Harris reiterated that very soon the United States will announce shipments of vaccines to Mexico and other countries.

Regarding the closure at the border, he pointed out that both countries were willing to review the issue and bring it down as soon as possible.

Ebrard said that President López Obrador said: “It is important to think that all activities (on the border) are not closed, the economic impact is immense.”

López Obrador also called for maintaining a good relationship on security issues between the two countries, the foreign minister said .

He rejected that the issue of the diplomatic note was touched upon for alleged interference by the US in financing “coup organizations” in Mexico . “That issue has already been sent and discussed with the US Embassy, ” he added.

He stressed that this meeting makes clear the entry of a new stage of considerable closeness and affinity in the relationship with the United States .

The foreign minister explained that the extradition of the alleged leader of the Romanian mafia is in charge of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), although the Ministry of Foreign Relations (SRE) will accompany the entire process.

“Regarding the extradition we are supporting, we have to work with the FGR, the movements depend on the prosecution, we accompany the process, I could not tell you, but they did tell me that it will be very fast,” he commented.
