43-year-old journalist David Beriáin, who traveled to Sinaloa, Mexico in 2016 to record the documentary ‘Clandestino’ about the Sinaloa Cartel, was assassinated last Wednesday while working on another project along with two other journalists. an associate of the Beriáin family reported to The Associated Press.

Beriáin made in 2016 the recording of his documentary inside the bowels of the Sinaloa Cartel, where he was received for around three months by members of said criminal organization. This represents one of the most acclaimed and courageous works of his career.

“We will go into its entrails to know its secrets, its codes, its power of corruption,” the journalist narrates in his first chapter of Clandestino.

Beriáin became a silent witness to the crimes of the Sinaloa drug traffickers and interviewed some of his hitmen, his drug “cooks” and traffickers to open a window to the world inside the Sinaloa Cartel.

Despite the arrest of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán at that time, the Clandestino documentary showed viewers how the drug is transferred from the Sierra de Sinaloa and how it crosses the borders to be seen on the streets of the United States, which it became one of the most outstanding works in the extensive legacy left by David Beriáin.

The journalist was currently making a documentary on poaching and how the Burkina Faso government dealt with it when he was attacked by gunmen near a national park last Monday.

It was reported that the area where Beriáin was located is a site of operation for terrorists, bandits and jihadists, according to the Irish Foreign Ministry. It is worth mentioning that at the time of the ambush there were also 47-year-old journalist Roberto Fraile and an Irish citizen.
