Walmart is removing the sex-obsessed, pro-abortion women’s magazine “Cosmopolitan” from its checkout shelves.

The retail chain announced the change this week after considering concerns raised by parents and conservative groups about the content of the magazine, USA Today reports.

“While this was primarily a business decision, the concerns raised were heard,” Walmart spokesperson Meggan Kring said.

“Cosmpolitan” often displays scantily clad women on its front covers, along with headlines promoting risky sexual behavior and other objectionable content. It also regularly advocates for abortion on demand. Inside its pages, Cosmo has criticized late-term abortion bans and justified eugenic abortions of disabled unborn babies. It has blasted pro-life pregnancy centers for helping women understand abortion risks and alternatives. And it has allowed countless women to justify aborting their unborn babies for any reason at all.

Last year, columnist Jill Filipovic even flat out stated that abortions are good because they mean “better sex.”

Though the magazine is not happy, one of its former writers, Sue Ellen Browder, described Walmart’s decision as a “small victory” in a column at the National Catholic Register this week.

For 20 years, Browder wrote for “Cosmopolitan,” promoting the so-called sexually liberated lifestyle to readers. Later, she realized how damaging that messaging was to women, and became a pro-life advocate.

“As one of Cosmo’s well-paid freelance writers, I fabricated sex-revolution copy to sell young women the lie that sex without marriage or babies would somehow set them ‘free,’” she wrote. “The stories about those ‘liberated’ women sleeping with men they barely knew — all of the stories I wrote — were entirely fabricated.”

The magazine objectifies women by pushing sex and abortion as liberating, she said. Even feminist icon Betty Friedan described the magazine as “quite obscene and quite horrible” because of it obsession with irresponsible sex, Browder said.

“Pulling Cosmo from the checkout-line racks is a small victory. But it’s a significant step forward for women and children,” she wrote. “The false ‘feminism’ Cosmo promotes wrecks young women’s lives, shatters marriages through divorce, and has led to millions of babies being aborted.”

Haley Halverson, vice president of advocacy for the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, said her organization urged Walmart to change its policy. She thanked the retail store chain for deciding to stop displaying Cosmo’s hyper-sexualized content in prominent places.

“You can go through and buy your groceries with your family knowing you don’t have to be exposed to this graphic and often degrading and offensive material,” Halverson said. “… we really want a culture that will respect women and ensure their dignity is understood.”
