Russia refuses to extend the program to destroy the U.S. nuclear weapons

Moscow: told Russia the United States it does not want to extend the program “Nunn – Lugar” to disarm weapons of mass destruction return for the year 1991 and which aims to destroy nuclear, chemical, especially, as Deputy Russian Foreign Minister as quoted by Interfax news agency.

The deputy minister Sergei Ryabkov said that “the American side knows that we do not wish to extend the new” after the expiry of the validity of the program in May 2013, adding that the situation was “change” in Russia since the beginning of the nineties.

Ryabkov added that “this agreement does not suit us, especially if we take into account that the situation has changed in Russia and our financial capabilities greatly enhanced.”

He also said that “a large part of what has been done thanks to the Nunn – Lugar has been performed, and no longer a problem.”

The program “CNN TR” (cooperation programs in reducing the threat of) better known under the name of “Nunn – Lugar” relative to the nominal members of the U.S. Senate who were behind him.

The program aims to reduce the risks resulting from the disintegration of the Soviet Union by encouraging rehabilitation of military industries and the protection of American-funded sensitive technology as well as overseeing the nuclear and chemical arsenals in countries of the former Soviet Union and destroyed.
