Rasmussen : NATO Secretary General extended for the fifth consecutive year

BRUSSELS, October 3. / Itar-Tass Denis Dubrovin, Anastasia Pyatkina /. The North Atlantic Council extended the mandate of Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the NATO secretary general at the post until the end of July 2014. This is stated in the received ITAR-TASS statement of the press service of the alliance.

“After the consultation process, the Allies confirmed today the mandate of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen for the fifth year in office, extending it to the end of July 2014,” – said in a statement.

“The Allies will support the Secretary General in his active work to advance the goals, objectives and mission of NATO, based on consensus judgment of the Member States” – the document says.

Thus, the post of Secretary General Rasmussen remain until almost the end of the NATO campaign in Afghanistan, providing consistent leadership alliance between withdrawal of NATO forces from the country, which should be fully completed on 31 December 2014. In this connection, it is possible that Rasmussen does the future is another extension of the mandate.
