United States. – A host of U.S. television network Fox News apologized Friday after issuing real-time images of a suspect in the theft of a car in Arizona (southwestern U.S.), who shot himself in the head after a police chase.
“Actually we were wrong and we are sorry,” said the presenter Shepherd Smith, who told viewers that the live-with-five-second delay should have been interrupted.
“That will not happen again on my watch,” added Smith.
The video went viral almost immediately in social media on the web.
The unidentified man was clearly seen from a news helicopter when you put a gun to his head and fell after leaving Dodge Caliber network on a deserted road on the outskirts of Phoenix.
It was not known at this time whether the suspect was dead.
The TV station Fox 10, a Fox News affiliate in Phoenix, said police had chased the suspect at high speed of stealing a car for more than an hour, first by Interstate 10, and then on secondary roads near the town of Salome, west of Phoenix.
“The suspect stopped at a road and moved away from the vehicle before shooting himself,” said Fox 10 on its website ( http://www.myfoxphoenix.com ).
He said the suspect had shot at police in the early stages of the incident.
