The U.S. has classified the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libyan as a terrorist act but so far there is no evidence that it was planned in advance according to a press statement by White House spokesperson Jay Carney.
The U.S. is continuing to investigate the deaths on September 12 of Ambassador Christopher Stevens in Benghazi and three employees of the consulate. Washington is looking into the question whether proper safety procedures were being followed.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the establishment of a commission on this issue.
