, Maria Ivanova /. The decision taken today by NATO’s decision to transfer the international mission to patrol Baltic airspace on a permanent basis demonstrates the solidarity of member states of NATO. Such an opinion was expressed by Minister of Defence of Latvia Artis Pabriks.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevich also welcomed NATO’s decision to transfer the mission to patrol Baltic airspace on a permanent basis. “This is the main priority of Latvia at the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago in May of this year. Today’s decision will allow the summit to extend the formal operation of the NATO air patrols in the Baltic States,” – said the press service of the Foreign Ministry. According Rinkevich, this mission shows the solidarity of allies and a willingness to provide collective security.

The mission “air police” partners of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to NATO at its fighters carried out since 2004 with the Lithuanian airbase Zokniai. Instead of large investments in the Baltic States Air Force’s own powerful NATO members have taken this task on themselves.

Since 2009, Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn, to seek its transfer to long-term, and desirable – a permanent basis, parity cover living expenses in the Lithuanian Air Force personnel of NATO countries, and from 2010 – the cost of transportation of personnel and equipment. .2002.08.2012 21:4812 21:48
