A new internet company in the United States has launched Nextdoor social network designed to strengthen local communities, allowing residents to connect to “real world”.
Nextdoor.com was launched on Wednesday in the U.S. as a digital version of the town square, where neighbors know and what happens to those around them.
”Good things happen when people know their neighbors,” said co-founder and CEO of Nextdoor, Nirav Tolia.
The only caveat is that users must verify their identity and prove that they live in the real world within the neighborhood online that wish to join.
”When you have a physical address, it has a high level of confidence,” Tolia said. “This way you can get to know neighbors and, above all, to regain a sense of community.”
Nextdoor has been tested privately for almost a year and has already spread over 175 districts in 26 states.
”Nextdoor takes the best of social media, add a tablespoon of intimacy, and wrapped in a blanket of privacy and convenience,” said Anne Clauss, whose neighborhood in Hamilton, New York, has a place in the service.
